“No I actually go to CMU." The undying catchphrase of CMU students.

Any student of Canadian Mennonite University can attest to this, we have all been there. You meet someone new or you run into someone you haven’t seen in a while and go through the pleasantries. Even people you see often and know well seem to forget where you go to school. At first it doesn’t phase you, you knew it was a small and largely unheard of school. However, after the hundredth time, it is hard to not question if there is good reason behind their forgetfulness. Did we make the right choice coming here?

As business majors, everyone assumes we go to Asper and we never miss the patronizing look as we regurgitate our catchphrase. We are treated as if we are all Asper rejects, meanwhile many of us never even applied. Others happily chose to escape the banal atmosphere of the larger universities in search of a close knit community of like minded individuals. Searching for people who also wanted to enter the world of business, but perhaps with more of an interest in people and ecology than just the numbers. Breaking away from the notion that the goal of business is profit may seem like a radical new age idea, but us, at our small unheard of university, we strongly believe in it. We also believe in making lasting connections and helping each other out, not competing with every other student beside us. We, at our small unheard of university, see each other and are seen by our professors by more than just a student number.
